Happy Holidays to you from Pinkpomegranates and Dolly's Friends

Img_0260

When I got these Nancy Annes they look very neglected, they are from the  1930's and 40's, so they are 60

something years old. I really enjoyed restoring them, laundering and mending their darling little dresses.

Making some new dresses and bonnets, replaced the ribbons and flowers. I did this with my mom and sister

sitting by the fireside visiting, stitching and ironing, we had our own party of sorts.......... It was great

to see them already and  pretty for their debut at very special Christmas Tea and of course what would Pinkpomegranates be without a Pink! Tree...........................................................................

My little friends

Broken Vessel

Img_0104

A pitcher, to hold water, something to drink......This one has been well used, mended and re-glued, when
I found it buried in a corner of a garage at a sale I wanted it. The owner said it was really not worth anything because it was cracked and damaged, I didn't care, I took her home anyway. The same is true of my little German cup all the bright colors and glitter spoke to me when I saw it, my little cup isn't perfect either. I think they belong together, and they still serve a purpose to hold  my  sweet flowers, my velvet
pansies, pink blossoms and ribbon pansy (gift from my mom). What value does something really hold, unless it be loved even with all its imperfections..............Pinkie

Memories of Home

Img_0123

When I grew up I lived on a Dairy Farm in the country. We had cows, lots and lots of cows and calves.
We had the freedom to explore, play, climb trees. My grandfather was born in the Azores, he came here
with his two youngest sister when he was very young. Both his parents had past away.  His dream was to own land and have his own dairy. At one time he milk cows at three different locations. He loved his cows. They were his life and livelihood. My grandfather was a very patient man and very hard working. He loved us very much and had a dream for us to be educated. My brothers still live at our ranch in the country. We visit often, it holds many happy memories of my childhood. My mother lived there on the farm over 40 years, before moving to town. This picture hangs on my living room walls, when I gaze at it it reminds me of many happy memories of growing up with my sister and brothers on our farm . My life was shaped by my
wonderful up bringing in my Portuguese culture, language and values. Lots of laughter, love and a secure
foundation. I feel very blessed to grow up as I did. This will always be home to me.............................

Img_0124

What do you call home? Hope you have a blessed and wonderful day!

Playing as Time goes by.......

Img_0118

These are some of my favorite things that sit on my mantle, soon I will take them off to decorate for Christmas...... This little celluloid clock is one of my most favorite treasures, for me it holds many memories of childhood, it sat in our bedroom growing up on an old antique vanity my mother had painted
for our room. She found this little clock and decorated with sweet little poseys. My mother was very busy
with the five of us, washing, cooking, living on a farm there are lots of chores. Still she found time to paint,
she said she would get up early before we were awake to do the things she liked. I remember sharing a
room with my sister, fighting over clothes, cleaning up and just be silly, these are memories I wouldn't trade for anything. This little clock doesn't keep track of time anymore, and is a little worse for wear, but it still speaks to me, of memories and good ones of time gone by.....................................................

Img_0126

One of a pair of alter art collages my sister and mom made for me, when we were going to have a Tea Party.
They are very special to me  and hang over my dining room windows, I love looking at them and seeing them(Mom and Rene')

Img_0106

Here is the other, I picked these frames up for a quarter a piece at a tag sale....................................
I love you and thank you Mom and Nae!
Enjoy your beautiful day everyone! Mine is going to be great!

Sound of Music

58349h

I love how music can lift you to new heights, take you to places you've never been before, touch your heart, bringing tears of joy and leaving a lasting imprint on your heart. I remember when I was little I so wanted to learn how to play the piano. I took lessons for years also had a flute. Well, I learned a little but this was not my forte.
On my mantle I have my husbands great-grandfathers mandolin. This is one of our most treasured possessions. When I gaze at it I see a family gathered around candlelight, after an evening meal, listening  intently, enjoying each others company. Soft notes fill the air with beautiful music.I can hear it...........

Img_0095_2

This is our mandolin that sits on my mantle in the living room......................................................

Img_0093

My maternal grandmothers father also played the mandolin, isn't that something?

This is a re-post , now that I have my camera I decided to show you  our mandolin. Have a happy

Monday and I going to start on my Christmas decorating and listen to some music...............Pinkie

Happy Thanksgiving!

90a5_1

Family, children, good food, laughter and creating memories, holidays are to
be enjoyed. Today we are so thankful for our wonderful family. I am the oldest of five children, my sister Rene' is next , then the 3 boys, Shawn, Ed and Jeremy, we all live close by except for Ed he is in Arkansas. We are coming
together today for our Thanksgiving meal at my mom Mary's home. This morning
when we woke up my son Ryley Joe asked me who was cooking the turkey, it is
Thanksgiving he said. I told him Uncle Shawn was. He asked if he had shot him
too. I said maybe you'll have to ask him. ( They have a pet turkey at the ranch)
He was concerned we were eating him for our meal today! Don't eat too much
today, and enjoy your family and friends. I know that I have sooo much to be
thankful for............and I am sure you do too. HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE! From the Pinkpomegranates
