Down by the Sea Shore

Img_1152

Today, I made our reservations for our summer vacation at the Ocean, It made me start thinking about
how much I enjoy being there at the beach........................................................................

Img_1154

I love the warmth of the sand beneath your feet and the roar and crashing of the waves........................

Img_1151

The lulling of the tide so peaceful and mesmerizing...................................................................
(My collection of sea shell flower arrangements)

Img_1156

I love to just sit, to be soothed by her song............................................................................

Img_1159

Sometimes we go to beach where old bottles were dumped, and the glass tumbled by the oceans waves,
the kids love to pick up and search for one of their favorite of many colors.....................................

Img_1166

When the tide is low, they scour the tide pools for little creatures to take back in their buckets of water....

Img_1177

They also like to play and swim when the tide is not so rough, that water it so cold, I don't know how they

can do it!

Img_1170

Oh, the Ocean is calling me, I wish I was there this moment!.......................................................

Img_1171

Well, my sea shell dreams will have to be as close as I get to the beach today............Hope you enjoyed

some of my shell collections and have a great weekend and dream of one of your favorite places...........

Tell me I love to hear....................................................................................Pinkie Denise

Fabric Inspirations, Found Treasure

Img_1116_3

I love love love fabric! When I was five years old I learned how to sew, my sewing teacher in 4-H, Mrs.Lanzi
taught my mother, me and my oldest daughter Heidi, she was a wonder teacher and woman. I loved to sew and make doll clothes then, made all my own clothes. I just have this thing about fabric, I can't explain it, the texture feel and colors speak to me, I have to touch it feel it and hoard it, sounds crazy huh? Well, I decided to organize some of my boxes this weekend and took out my doll stuff, well that got me started, matching, arranging and a little bit of ribbon, some buttons, lace and flowers, voila! A doll outfit, I will arrange all my fabric and notions for an ensemble and then begin to cut, here are some of my inspirations................................................................................................................

Img_1117_3

I remember going to  town to the department store and heading straight to the basement where the fabric and yardage was........my grandma would come and find me and ask me if I saw anything, did I see anything !Patterns, fabric, buttons dreaming of what I could make with this fabric and that, I was in heaven......................................................................................................................

Img_1119

Sometimes I got to pick something out.....wow! I would take it home and start dreaming and cutting........

My grandma had a hankie collection, she would pick them up at the thrift or yard sales bring them home, launder them and starch and iron them into perfection.........neatly she would place them in a cedar chest, sometimes she would let me look, but I could not unfold them or mess them up, very carefully I would inspect the embroidery and beautiful handwork .......................................................................

Img_1121

These are  my favorite colors soft, pink and green, but I love bright colors too, they light up my heart when

I see them!

Img_1124

I have made, I don't know probably hundreds and hundreds of cloth dolls, I took out my doll clothing patterns

and books and began to be inspired to try something new, a change of direction........Kind of scary too, I don't know if it will work........I bought some paper mache the other day and thought I would experiment.................................................................................................................

Img_1130_2

I love the Victorian era and their  elaborate clothing, attention to detail......I want to make a doll with an old world feel yet with my collections of colors and fabrics, I made a doll head the other night and its heading in the direction I want, but still  needs some more work.......................................................................

Well tomorrow is the Show and tell Sunday and the theme is hankies so I better get iron, but first I am off

to yard sales this morning and both my daughters are going to prom this evening a big day....Happy Saturday Pinkie

A visit to Grandma's

Img_1111_3

The sun was shinning and warming the room, as I sat and gazed upon these brightly colored linens I began to remember the stories told to me about my ancestors.............My grandparents on my mothers side
were from the Azores Islands. They traveled here to find and make a better life, they were farmers and dairy mens, I grew up on a farm. My grandmother Lena, Bobe we called her would travel back to her homeland many times to visit family. She would always return with souvenirs from her country. Her grandparents owned a vinda or store and her grandfather was a shoemaker. He made goulashes wooden soled clogs , like the ones in the picture above, I remember wearing a pair and clacking around in the gravel
or our yard, I still have my galoshes. These brightly colored blankets are made of wool and woven on a loom, I remember seeing these all the time growing up.The women in her country are famous for their hand work and embroidery called Madeira work like the linen above, it is so beautifully  made each  stitch  taken by hand......
My grandma loved dishes and china, over the years she became a collector, her appreciation for beauty was
passed to my mother , sister and I we too love china and my mom (Godmother Mary) is a china painter)

Img_1087

My mom collects German cups among many other things, heres a peak into her china cupboard...............

Img_1088

Img_1091

I feel so blessed have grown up with my grandparents, living right next door, her door was alway open and
goodies and treats on her table, when she became older she moved to town.....................................

Img_1093

My brothers still live on the ranch in the country, I live only a block from my mom. My littlest son Liam who
is 4 years old is the only one home now, the others all go to school. Every day he begs me to go to Grandma
Mary's, and see her and Aunt Rene', I tell him we must get our chores done......He waits patiently to go.....

Img_1113

To grandma Mary's house...............................Here is Liam with my mom

Img_1102

and here I am.....no its one of my dolls, I wonder why I like such bright colors? Hmmmmm, I don't know,
lol!We had a nice visit yesterday with Grandma Mary and I finished up a project its so nice we live only a
little ways away and can visit anytime, and guess what, she always has treats on her table too!

Valentines, Dreams and Fairytales

Img_1060_3

I found this Victorian frame at a thrift store, it caught my eye hanging high upon a wall.....When I asked
the clerk to take it down I saw that it had old Valentines on velvet, Yes, I couldn't contain my excitement
at  my new found treasure!

Img_1064

Yes, love does have a message, it can speak loudly or in that still soft voice, if you listen and be silent
you will hear its sweetness...........

Img_1066

Here is another collage of old Valentines, I found this at the last street fair I went to with my sweet friend
Sheri, we have so much fun together when we go antiquing, we both have a love of pink and pottery. Sheri
has one of the hugest collection of pottery I have ever seen, I'll ask if she will let me share with you.........

Img_1068

Love hath swift wings and sharpened darts, he laughs and sings while wounding hearts, sometimes this is
true love can be painful.............. a broken heart does mend, time will does heal, we must trust again to be able to  share it again......

Img_1074_2

All days are nights to me till, I thee see, and nights bright days when Dreams do show me thee...............
(Shakespeare)
Dreams , yes what or who has captured your dream? Something to think about on this cold January morn....
Enjoy your day Pinkie Denise

Sweet Treats and Dollys

Img_1049

I am doing a swap from Karlas Cottage, we are swapping recipes for a sweet Valentines treat with 40

others and the hostesses are making us a cover with vintage wallpaper. I love vintage wallpaper, especially

old fashioned pink roses.....I am almost done just need to make my copies......I did my first swap at

Christmas and it was a lot of fun.

Img_1052

I have a few of these vintage half dolls, sometimes you will see them on pin cushions, and old boudoir

lamps. I ordered one the other day from a lady who sells them poured and fired to bisque, this is nice because

my kiln is not hooked up right now.....

Img_1053

These are some I picked up to make tea cozies out of . I have a ribbon embroidery pattern I want to make

her skirt out of......I have everything now just making the time.....

Img_1054

Here is the doll I bought to china paint and my mom will be able to fire her for me in her china painting kiln.

Her arms move, which I think is so unusual

Img_1058

Her name is Freida, reminds me of the movie ........Love that movie!

Can't wait to get her finished and dressed, love playing with dolls....................

Do you?

Amazingaward

I received this award from sweet Dolly at From My Cherry Heart

Well, I met Dolly from mycherryheart.blogspot.com
she has tagged me and my blog, I guess I am supposed
to tell you seven weird things about myself, and post a link to the person who tagged me Dolly and pick seven more people to tag at the end.....
Here is goes  1. I have a fear of great big dogs and was chased many times by great big ones when I was a child, its ok if I know them but if I don't no way!
                     2. I have a fear of lawn mowers, I have tried to overcome my fear and I just can't when I hear
the engine start I run and hide for cover....
                     3. I am very picky about my furniture and keep covered all the time only when I am having
company do I take them off, I drive my kids crazy about it, just ask them.....
                     4. I love tomatoes, but do not like tomatoe sauce, alway eat my spaghetti with butter and cheese...       5. I am obsessive about my Christmas tree, I have to find the perfect one no matter what,
then it takes me forever to decorate, and I have to have it just right.
                     6. I always have to have everything match, and my clothing has to be acessorized and matching to even down to my shoes and socks.
                     7. I can never ever pass up a yard sale or thrift store, this drives my family crazy!
Well, I really sound kind of OCD but I am not, pretty laid back, and can let everything go
to be creative, laundry and cleaning can wait.......
Well, I hope I did this right, oh, I need to pick seven more people and let them know they
have been tagged.
                      1. Betty at She's so pretty
                      2. Priscilla at Fleamarket Queen
                      3. Heather at Pretty Petals Boutique
                      4. Lori at Fairewindow
                      5. Debra at Hophopjingleboo
                      6. Miss Sandy at Quill Cottage
7.Phylis at Shabby in th City

Do you have any weird quirks? I am sure you a least have one, come on, if you do let me know, its

sort of fun learning about each other...........Enjoy and have a great day Pinkie Denise
