I love love love fabric! When I was five years old I learned how to sew, my sewing teacher in 4-H, Mrs.Lanzi
taught my mother, me and my oldest daughter Heidi, she was a wonder teacher and woman. I loved to sew and make doll clothes then, made all my own clothes. I just have this thing about fabric, I can't explain it, the texture feel and colors speak to me, I have to touch it feel it and hoard it, sounds crazy huh? Well, I decided to organize some of my boxes this weekend and took out my doll stuff, well that got me started, matching, arranging and a little bit of ribbon, some buttons, lace and flowers, voila! A doll outfit, I will arrange all my fabric and notions for an ensemble and then begin to cut, here are some of my inspirations................................................................................................................
I remember going to town to the department store and heading straight to the basement where the fabric and yardage was........my grandma would come and find me and ask me if I saw anything, did I see anything !Patterns, fabric, buttons dreaming of what I could make with this fabric and that, I was in heaven......................................................................................................................
Sometimes I got to pick something out.....wow! I would take it home and start dreaming and cutting........
My grandma had a hankie collection, she would pick them up at the thrift or yard sales bring them home, launder them and starch and iron them into perfection.........neatly she would place them in a cedar chest, sometimes she would let me look, but I could not unfold them or mess them up, very carefully I would inspect the embroidery and beautiful handwork .......................................................................
These are my favorite colors soft, pink and green, but I love bright colors too, they light up my heart when
I see them!
I have made, I don't know probably hundreds and hundreds of cloth dolls, I took out my doll clothing patterns
and books and began to be inspired to try something new, a change of direction........Kind of scary too, I don't know if it will work........I bought some paper mache the other day and thought I would experiment.................................................................................................................
I love the Victorian era and their elaborate clothing, attention to detail......I want to make a doll with an old world feel yet with my collections of colors and fabrics, I made a doll head the other night and its heading in the direction I want, but still needs some more work.......................................................................
Well tomorrow is the Show and tell Sunday and the theme is hankies so I better get iron, but first I am off
to yard sales this morning and both my daughters are going to prom this evening a big day....Happy Saturday Pinkie
