Madame Doll Theatre

IMG_2703 One of my blogging friends asked if I was making a theatre for the Collaborative with Catherine Moore, Huhm?
I am so glad I decided to join, and make such a fun project. I have always loved fashion, dolls and antiques.
It was left pretty much open for us to choose what we were going to do...
IMG_2714 I chose an old clock case I had been saving for years for something to stage my theatre....

IMG_2704 I am going to line the inside with old sheet music, with the theme moonlight waltz, so romantic....

IMG_2705
I decided to crown the top of my theatre with what else....a wonderful tiara of empherma and millinery flowers...

IMG_2711 I am having a little trouble decided which beautiful Madame will make her debut....I love them all...

IMG_2709 I am making the stage curtains right now, so hard to choose, should I use the green, rose and French striped fabric for the drapes? I think the stripes might be a little to busy...

IMG_2712  I decided to use this wonderful antique tile with morning glories for my stage floor, isn't it great?

IMG_2708 Well, I am off to put on the finishing touches, When I have it all together and I better it's supposed to be
done by this weekend...I will take a picture. It feels so good to be creating Pinkie Denise

tea parties and teapots...

But nothing compared to my mom's collection, so I decided to visit and snap a few picts of her china..

Watching over us...

Angels Guardian

I can remember the image of this picture hanging on our living room wall growing up. It was a gift from my
Avo , my Grandmother Lena had bought for my mom at a small antique store many years ago.
Yesterday, my five year old Ryley Joe was having a little graduation ceremony from kindergarten, and my
niece Chelsea was in a play. My sister picked my son Liam and I up early in the morning to head out. My
children attend a small country school which is about 20 miles from our home. While traveling down the highway a pick up truck pulled out from a stop sign into our path, a semi truck to our left obsurced our view leaving us no time to stop....I have never been in a car accident before. My sister Rene was driving her minivan,
we slammed into the passenger side of the small truck. Rene jumped out and exclaimed the Angels were with
us....I know they were! We were ok just a few minor bumps and bruises, my son Liam was just a little shook
up. Thinking back I felt as if a bubble of protection engulfed us and something stopped us to keep the car from
rolling over. I thank my Heavenly Father for watching over us and I truly believe his angels came to our aid...
A little sore today, I have so much  to be thankful for.....

Show and Tell Vintage Linens

Img_2158

Welcome to Show and Tell Sunday hosted by Cerri of Little Pink Studio.Today our topic is Vintage Linens.
I love anything handmade, linens, napkins, laces, pillowcases, tablecloths and clothing. I have quite a few,
but nothing compared to my Mother, the Linen Lady. We were gone almost all day yesterday and I didn't have the luxury or time to photograph everything like I would of liked. So here is a peek into her linen closet...This is her upstairs bathroom...

Img_2184

This a beautiful red-work pillow sham, it was well used and loved...

Img_2506

This is a table in my mom's butlers pantry covered in a pretty vintage colorful tablecloth..

Moms_hallway

This is the hallway where my mother stores alot of her linens, but she also uses them to decorate all over her home..

Mom_folding_linenes

I wish you could see what is inside this cupboard. I wanted to take them out and look at them all...

Moms_linen_cupboard

These are mostly crocheted tablecloths and the two on the bottom are Madeira work from the Azores Island which are infamous for their handwork...This is where my grandparents came from and I think  this is where the love for vintage handwork was  woven into our heritage....
(The beautiful hand painted painters palette was a gift from my mother's Godchild in France)

A monogrammed tablecloth and beautiful petticoat...

I love this sweet pillow, my mom has a collection of these along with bedspreads from the twenty's

So Familiar

Img_2451

This is my Grandfather Luiz Deniz. He came to America when he was seventeen years old. Here he is pictured with his many nieces and nephews....

Img_2455

I remember my Avo well, I lived and grew up with him on the farm until I was nine years old. My grandfather
was a strong man, yet little in stature, quite, gentle and very thoughtful...He loved his family, six brothers and three sisters. He visited with them almost every single day. He was the last of his siblings to leave the
Azores to come to a new life bringing is two younger sisters Rose and Anna.

Img_2458

This is a transfer-ware bowl my Grandfather brought with him along with a handwoven linen towel, my mother guards these family heirlooms and shares our rich family history in wonderful stories for all her
grandchildren....

Img_2452

I remember my Grandmother Lena's stories of how they would go to the fields to gather flax to be beaten
in to thread that would then be woven in to beautiful cloth such and this towel....

Img_2460

This is a paper doll my mom made from the photo above of her Grandmother Maria....She never made it
to America. My mom said her life was hard and she was not well, her dream was to see her children have
a better life in this land...While my mom was creating her she said she had a sense of her drawing near as she dressed her in her beautiful new clothes and saw her smile....

Img_2435

While attending a family gathering a few days ago I had the privilege to spend time with my Grandfather's family....several of his nieces are pictured here from the original photo of him almost 90 years ago...(Annie Deniz and Delmeda Deniz) (from left to right) Judy Bush, cousin, Annie Deniz cousin,Robin, my mom Mary, Joan Thodus, cousin, Anne Amaro Corriea, cousin, Elaine cousin, Kathy Ingraham, cousin, myself and Pamela Edwards cousin. As I gazed into my cousins eyes they were so familiar, I felt my grandfather Luiz very near....

Lovely, Swaps, Finds

Img_2432

The weather is beautiful, it's really starting to warm up....going out this morning I snapped a few photos of
my garden in front...

Img_2433

Hollyhock, in vibrant shades of pinks, yellows and reds are peaking out and my foxgloves....

Img_2431

Roses, in all shade of pink, vibrant dark to the palest pink wild rose....

Img_2434

And one lone sweet pea volunteered, oh I just love their sweet scent.....

Img_2467

And this lovely package arrived in the mail from Jenny at Pinkaboo. She was my partner for the Kentucky
Derby Hat Swap....I love it Jenny and as you can see she picked all my favorite colors and it goes perfectly
with all my things. You did a wonderful job Jenny and thank you, this was such a fun swap. I love vintage
hats and clothing and it will go well with my collections....

Img_2462

So pretty and soft...

Img_2470

Last weekend I was planning on going to a big flea market in the Bay Area....because of family obligations I wasn't able to get away. I did go to a couple of yard sales here and I couldn't believe what I found!

Img_2471

A large piece of canvas cloth from maybe a flour sack, so beautiful covered with very old buttons...

Img_2472

They are all arrange by color and so lovingly sew on...they are even marked with whom they belonged to and where they came from. I was so excited I think I was hyperventilating....

Img_2473

This reads gold button from her Granmothers wedding dress 9-2-1875 Wow

Img_2474

Also button from someone named Mary's grandmothers charm string, so amazing to me....also a military button dating from 1876. I'll just show you a couple more of my favorites...

Img_2484

I have been so busy lately I haven't had time to sit and enjoy them, but I will...

Img_2486

There are rows of these beauties, the steels are my favorites...They are Victorian, I can only imagine what garments they adorned, what beautiful fabric they became attached to....Prized to be kept and handed down through passage of time...I so glad they were treasured for many to love....

Img_2481

I believe this large button is carved of jet....when I found the canvas of buttons I hesitantly asked the woman the price....I must have three dollars for that she said, I'll take it!

Soiree, Ahoy!

I have always loved the ocean. My grandparents who were from the Azores Islands in the Atlantic talked and dreamed of their homeland...I have not been able to make a visit to this place of my inheritance, but hope to someday...
We would spend many summer visiting the blue waters...I love shells, love to fish, and just sit in the warm sand and watch the crashing waves...

Img_1357

As I dream of the beautiful ocean, riding the high seas, maybe I was a mermaid
in another life...

Img_1370

This is my creation...My Ocean Dreamer Crown for now as I gaze and dream of
sailing the sea with my  mermaid crown upon my head.....Happy Swashbuckler Soiree....Pinkie
