My mom remembers having a Nancy Ann that her dad had won for her at a Card

in a kit , with the materials to make them a dress. Little girls would learn how
to sew, they are called Sewing Dolls....I would love to make dresses for them...

The Lady

My mom is an artist...she loves to paint, roses are her favorite subject....
I wanted to learn how to paint dolls, antique reproduction porcelain dolls. I signed up and took a class, well it didn't work out it was a strange experience to say the least. My mom said she could teach me. We bought books and I researched and just jumped in. Well, it takes lots and lots and I mean alot of
practice but I was determined. While I was learning we ran across a bed doll mold from the 20's. My mom said she remember them laying across a neatly made bed not to be played with. She decided to create her own. We used a
air drying paper clay that was in liquid form that can be poured into a mold.

Img_1898

My mom found an original McCalls pattern for her clothing and made her a
beautiful dress...

Img_1907

I love the dramatic look and feel of these old boudoir dolls, I think my mom
captured it perfectly....We just order a couple of gallons of slip and as the weather gets warmer, you must pour when the weather is dry and warm, we
hope to make some more dollies , I can't wait!

Img_1911

My mom Mary, love these old fashioned ladies from the 20's, here are a few of
little ladies from her collection...

Img_1913

Pretty cup and saucer and salt and pepper shakers...

Img_1915

These are old curtains and hand embroidered bedspread from the 20's, I just
had to take a picture of my favorite pinks and pretty green bonnet...

Img_1909

Someone lovingly did a beautiful job of handwork.....

Img_1925

Pretty monochromatic print...

Img_1917

As I was snapping these pictures at my mom's the fragrance of this Easter lily

was so heavenly I just had to share it.... Hope you all had a wonderful Easter

we did...Family, sharing good food and celebrating .....

I have been busy painting and working on my studio this week while I have some help, my kids are off for spring break, so forgive me I haven't been a good blogger lately, be back soon.....Pinkie

Happy Holidays to you from Pinkpomegranates and Dolly's Friends

Img_0260

When I got these Nancy Annes they look very neglected, they are from the  1930's and 40's, so they are 60

something years old. I really enjoyed restoring them, laundering and mending their darling little dresses.

Making some new dresses and bonnets, replaced the ribbons and flowers. I did this with my mom and sister

sitting by the fireside visiting, stitching and ironing, we had our own party of sorts.......... It was great

to see them already and  pretty for their debut at very special Christmas Tea and of course what would Pinkpomegranates be without a Pink! Tree...........................................................................

Dolly's, Giveaway and Our 50th Post

I have always loved dolls as long as I can remember. When I was little I had them on a shelf in our room. I can remember making a cornstarch doll on a wire armature when I was about 8 or 9. I would sew all my clothing and make rag dolls too. My mothers friend found a old doll in a trunk and asked if she would like it. That was the beginning of my romance with antique dolls. She was a very large china head with a hair band and cafe au lait colored curls. She
is called spilled curls. I think I was about 10 or 11 and she came dressed in a tattered outfit not befitting for such a queen or so I thought. I went shopping to find the perfect fabric. Sheer cotton imprinted with baby blue rose buds. I
got a costuming book at the library to make her costume. I will take a photo of
her later so you can see her. She doesn't sit alone now, but with her many companions in my doll case.  Before I had my first son I started doing craft shows and did so faithfully for over 20 years , every Thanksgiving weekend with my sister Rene'. We would recruit the help of our family and friends to
set up our elaborate booth.  Babies in strollers, toddlers, I honestly do not know how I did it. Last year we made a decision  not to have a booth and enjoyed our Thanksgiving , not madly crafting until we hours of the morning.
This year we are embarking on new adventure. To have an on line shop and store. My mother , aka Fairy Godmother, and sister Rene' aka Rpomegranate
and myself pinkie Denise. For years we have collected, my mom having an antique shop, we would like to share with you some of our treasures found along the way living and sharing life.
Here I am, you better catch me I do not like my picture taken, but I am here
with my dollies, some will be offered on line for sale.

These are my cloth dollies made with vintage fabrics, antique linens, buttons and lace. They are names signed and come with an antique postcard.

11062007_04_2

These  two have hankie aprons, velvet and wool chapeaus, velvet boots, no
two are alike, they are one of kind with hand painted faces.

More Vintage Dollies...................................................................
This is our 50th post and we thought we would like to give you a little and made gift from each of us. There are lots of goodies so don't miss out. Just
leave a comment on our post from now until the 10th of November and will put your name in. You can enter as many times as you like, We would like to say
thank you and celebrate all the wonderful new friends we have made , while in Bloglandia! Pinkie Denise, Rpomegranate and the Fairy Godmother Mary.

The Angel Lady

Denises_dolls

When I was little I loved to play with dolls, Barbies, baby dolls, but I also like the outdoors climbing trees
making mud pies and getting dirty. I learned to sew at a young age and was intrigued by my grandmother's
treadle sewing machine. I remember making clothes for my dolls and myself. From this I have always appreciated the fine handwork, love old linens lace, embroidery work and fabric itself. I can proudly say I am a tactile woman.  I love to take these wonderful thing and create with them my little ladies. My vintage
dollies, each one unique, and blooming with color. I never tire of making them. My first love is porcelain,
antique reproduction, but these are far more intricate and intensive to create. Every year I would attend a
local craft fair with my dollies. One year a older woman began to buy several of my dolls, she became a
faithful customer over the next several years. While I was away from my booth my sister was there she came and said she had something for me. She would need help so I followed her to my car. She had seven
black garbage back heaped full, things for my dolls. I thought they were scraps of fabrics and such. She left and I never saw her again. What was inside? The most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. Victorian velvet
crazy quilts, pink bubblegum 30's one, postage stamps, I quit counting at over twenty. Thats not all, linens,
beautiful embroidered pillowcases with crochet and laces and trims all antique. I was in heaven, I couldn't
even comprehend what had happened it was over the top, way over. I didn't use the quilts on my dolls, they
a some of my most treasured keepsakes, when ever I look at them I think of her and how she blessed me a
time in my life when I most certainly need it, maybe she was an angel from heaven.......... What do you
think?
