The Shopping Trip

IMG_2923 Yesterday, I went shopping with my mom and sister. We have to go about 45 minutes to do big shopping because our town is so small, two family grocery markets and a Walmart is about all we have. No craft stores, or clothing stores, but we do have a small antique shop.Well, kind of by accident we stopped to look for something else and happened upon a antique-junque shop...so glad we stopped
IMG_2907
I found these wonderful teacups and saucers and some vintage jewelry for crafting projects...
IMG_2909 I find it hard to pass up on sparkling bling, I think because it reminds of being little and playing in my Grandma's bottom drawer of costume jewelry...
IMG_2920 I love this old trading card framed in this little frame of a seamstress. I want to hang it over my sewing area with my mannequin .
IMG_2921 A few odd and ends saucers for crafting.....I had a lot of fun shopping with my mom and sister but have to show you this incredible find
IMG_2905 A double sized thirties hand made basket quilt in mint condition...it still has the pencil marks from the quilting lines, unbelievable! Even more unbelievable was the price...I just love quilts they are one of my most favorite collections....I was truly blessed. Hope you have a wonderful week Pinkie

Flea Market Part Two

Well, it's very busy at our house, summer is here and my oldest two are home from college. Everyone is excited to have them back home.I sure missed them and we have been catching up. My son has one year left
at UC Merced  in Southern California. He was the first class to attend the brand new University. It has been amazing to watch the progress. He's studying Molecular Biology and wants to continue in Genetic Research. He still has  a lot of school ahead. My daughter is attending school near home and wants to major in Art. She is busy visiting all her friends and spending time with her sisters.
IMG_2824 I wanted to share the rest of my Flea Finds from the Sacramento Faire with you....I love this silk purse, I think it was for hankies and lingerie, I just love the pink roses. Handpainted tea cup salt and pepper shakers for my collection, I collected single salt shakers that are pretty. I have over a hundred and have a rule to never spend over five dollars on them. I will share them sometime. I happen to find a pink beaded flower and crocheted pincushion and an other rose post card...
IMG_2818 I love finding vintage jewelry pieces for my dolls and other art...This rhinestone necklace was one of my finds of the day. It doesn't take too much to make me excited....
IMG_2820 Another handpainted plate, I want to do some altered art projects with the plates. Porcelain vase, beautiful card, blingy vintage earrings and another hankie holder...
IMG_2827 Some more jewelry, couple vases and pretty tea cup, pink rhinestone necklace and millinery feather ....
IMG_2828 I didn't find many old photographs, but I loved this one with the family and the girl on grandma's lap. This vase I thought was interesting, oops I was told it was not a vase put a Victorian thing that goes on your mantle, ok it was on the two dollar table!
IMG_2832 I just love these...there are two bunches of these beautiful wax flowers. I think they went on  wedding veils perhaps....the detail is just wonderful..
IMG_2839 Basketful of pretties...
IMG_2842 A German luster cup, more cards and I don't know if you can see but this silk ribbon has the most amazing raised velvet roses. As you can see my eye is drawn to pink, roses and handwork. I almost forgot I found some amazing Victorian blouses and a beautiful embroidered baby gown, they need alittle soaking and ironing first. The Sacramento Faire is the second Sunday of every month so worth the trip. I met alot of nice vendors too. I hope to make it back next month, but thats right before we leave for the Ocean so we'll see. Maybe I'll see you there! Pinkie Denise

Flea Market Fun

IMG_2800 Early Sunday morning I set off with my antiquing partner and good friend Sheri. Well, we were so excited, it was are first time attending the Sacramento Flea Market Faire. We are only about an hour and half away, but to our dismay we found ourselves lost...after calling home and getting directions we arrived at our destination
IMG_2802 It was well worth the trip....I found so many treasure, I am ready to go back...
IMG_2804 I found this sweet chalkware pincushions doll and old dolly storybook. I had to show you the pictures inside
they are so wonderful...
IMG_2807 There was so much vintage jewelry it was unbelievable. I could be very selective and find some great deals. Lots of linens and wonderful post cards too. I mostly pick the floral ones with roses which are my favorites.
I love this wonderful embroidery pillow, one of my favorite treasures of the day..
IMG_2810 I found this small pink satin purse, pretty gloves, couple millinery flowers and pink vintage enameled rhinestone bracelet, and I couldn't leave this sweet handmade pottery basket...
IMG_2812 I found this neat old photo album, the woman I got it from said she found it in England...couple more things
I could not  pass up...
IMG_2814 The inside pages are great..I thought it would be great for altered art because its coming apart...I want to try and repair it though...
IMG_2815 I love this Bavarian roses plate I found, you wouldn't believe me if I told you what it cost...it was a steal!
IMG_2817 Close up of the roses yummy huh! Oh my oldest Zach just arrived home from college! To be continued....
Happy Tuesday more later Pinkie

Show and Tell Trash to Treasure

Well, I had to stop and think what would be trash to treasure for me? I would have to say almost everything I have someone might have thrown away....I have the knack of finding things that probably no one else wants, or
bringing out the hidden beauty that can't be seen with the naked eye...
IMG_0172_2 These are some of the Nancy Ann Story Book Dolls I bought on ebay. They look pretty bad huh? Well, with a little tlc and fluffing and primping....
IMG_0178_2 I washed, ironed and repaired their clothing...
IMG_0238Here they are ready for their debuit at the Christmas Tea...
IMG_2437 When I found this settee down the street in an alley, it was in pieces. The side was off and the back split down the middle and in shreds. Most of my furniture was in sad condition when I found them....

IMG_2444 My husband wasn't too happy with me when I drug this chair on to the porch from a yard sale....
He loves it now....He asked me where did you get that from....
IMG_2439 IMG_2438

I am sorry, I am having fits with typepad right now. These are a couple more of my trash to treasure chairs..
This will be a short post because I am off to a flea market to find more treasures, Happy Sunday Pinkie

Show and Tell Vintage Linens

Img_2158

Welcome to Show and Tell Sunday hosted by Cerri of Little Pink Studio.Today our topic is Vintage Linens.
I love anything handmade, linens, napkins, laces, pillowcases, tablecloths and clothing. I have quite a few,
but nothing compared to my Mother, the Linen Lady. We were gone almost all day yesterday and I didn't have the luxury or time to photograph everything like I would of liked. So here is a peek into her linen closet...This is her upstairs bathroom...

Img_2184

This a beautiful red-work pillow sham, it was well used and loved...

Img_2506

This is a table in my mom's butlers pantry covered in a pretty vintage colorful tablecloth..

Moms_hallway

This is the hallway where my mother stores alot of her linens, but she also uses them to decorate all over her home..

Mom_folding_linenes

I wish you could see what is inside this cupboard. I wanted to take them out and look at them all...

Moms_linen_cupboard

These are mostly crocheted tablecloths and the two on the bottom are Madeira work from the Azores Island which are infamous for their handwork...This is where my grandparents came from and I think  this is where the love for vintage handwork was  woven into our heritage....
(The beautiful hand painted painters palette was a gift from my mother's Godchild in France)

Img_2498

A monogrammed tablecloth and beautiful petticoat...

Img_2502

I love this sweet pillow, my mom has a collection of these along with bedspreads from the twenty's

Lovely, Swaps, Finds

Img_2432

The weather is beautiful, it's really starting to warm up....going out this morning I snapped a few photos of
my garden in front...

Img_2433

Hollyhock, in vibrant shades of pinks, yellows and reds are peaking out and my foxgloves....

Img_2431

Roses, in all shade of pink, vibrant dark to the palest pink wild rose....

Img_2434

And one lone sweet pea volunteered, oh I just love their sweet scent.....

Img_2467

And this lovely package arrived in the mail from Jenny at Pinkaboo. She was my partner for the Kentucky
Derby Hat Swap....I love it Jenny and as you can see she picked all my favorite colors and it goes perfectly
with all my things. You did a wonderful job Jenny and thank you, this was such a fun swap. I love vintage
hats and clothing and it will go well with my collections....

Img_2462

So pretty and soft...

Img_2470

Last weekend I was planning on going to a big flea market in the Bay Area....because of family obligations I wasn't able to get away. I did go to a couple of yard sales here and I couldn't believe what I found!

Img_2471

A large piece of canvas cloth from maybe a flour sack, so beautiful covered with very old buttons...

Img_2472

They are all arrange by color and so lovingly sew on...they are even marked with whom they belonged to and where they came from. I was so excited I think I was hyperventilating....

Img_2473

This reads gold button from her Granmothers wedding dress 9-2-1875 Wow

Img_2474

Also button from someone named Mary's grandmothers charm string, so amazing to me....also a military button dating from 1876. I'll just show you a couple more of my favorites...

Img_2484

I have been so busy lately I haven't had time to sit and enjoy them, but I will...

Img_2486

There are rows of these beauties, the steels are my favorites...They are Victorian, I can only imagine what garments they adorned, what beautiful fabric they became attached to....Prized to be kept and handed down through passage of time...I so glad they were treasured for many to love....

Img_2481

I believe this large button is carved of jet....when I found the canvas of buttons I hesitantly asked the woman the price....I must have three dollars for that she said, I'll take it!

These are my two most favorite butterfly pins, I wear them sometimes on an outfit or jacket. I love all the
pastel colors....

Img_0868

I have always loved jewelry as long as I can remember...My grandma had a highboy and in the very bottom
drawer she filled it with her costume jewelry. We were allowed to get in there and play with it as long as we
put it back. I was in heaven digging like a pirate in a treasure chest...all those colorful baubles and beads they were like perfection...I love modern costume jewelry and can not buy an outfit without completing it
with accessories, earring, necklace and perhaps a bracelet.

Img_0866

I use my costume jewelry for projects on, my dolls and for crowns, a few of my favorites I keep to wear....

Img_0859

I usually sort them by colors so they are easier to find when I am working on a project....

Button, button , who's got the button?

I remember playing that game as a child...also making button spinners with string and whizzing the button until the string would pop, only to start over again....I also remember digging through my grandmas button box at all the pretty bright colors....

Img_1948_2

Being a seamstress and loving to sew, buttons always hold a dear place in my

heart....

Img_1950

The first thing I'll ask at a yard sale ...."Do you have any buttons?" Sometimes

I hit the jackpot and the answer is yes!

Img_1969

One time, I met a 87 year old woman, who like me loved buttons. She said Honey come back this evening when the sale is over and I'll show you my buttons....Oh, my did she have a collection and she was moving to Hawaii and was willing to part with them. I took them all, they are stored right now I can't get to them, but sometime I'll do a post on them...

Img_1957

I am in the middle of reorganizing my studio, and moving things around, so

if you ask me what are my favorite buttons I'd probably say the hand painted ones and the enameled Victorian, but I love the kitschy house dress buttons from the 40 and 50's too with all there bright and pastel colors...

Img_1947

Img_1944

Img_1962

Oh, and Bakelite's and carved ivory...

Img_1968

I would just have to say I love them all, I am an obsessed button collector and just can't stop, or leave them behind...

Img_1966

Some I found in the bottom of a yard sale box...

Img_1971

Some blingy rhinestones, these are fun to use on dolls and art....

Img_1974

And my glass beetle bug, it's large almost 2 inches long made of glass. I sort all

my buttons by type and colors, and sometimes I have friends come over just to visit and have tea , and sort buttons......It's alot of fun.....Now I am off to enjoy some of the other button posts  Pinkie

Annalise from Sugar Sugar is have a Button Challenge, a button fashion show of

sorts please go check it out....
